Corporate social responsibility

Sustainable development is one of the four axes of the PSA Group's strategic vision and the basis for the other three.

PSA Group’s responsibility commitment in Brazil

The PSA Group’s main commitments include developing safer vehicles with a smaller environmental footprint, creating a relationship based on improving conditions for its employees and extending its social engagement. Internally, the company’s main targets are:

  • Promote employee fulfilment
  • Guarantee wellbeing, health and safety in the workplace
  • Strengthen social cohesion
  • Develop ethical conduct and good citizenship

As a socially responsible company, in addition to issues that directly affect the development and production of vehicles, the PSA Group firmly supports ethical conduct and good citizenship by primarily focusing its actions on three areas: road safety, carbon emissions (environment) and urban mobility. These are fundamental areas but are not the Group’s only activities in Brazil, where it also supports or runs, for example, various projects involving education, committed to helping improve the country’s social conditions.

Below are some of the actions and projects implemented or supported by the PSA Group in Brazil:

Road safety/Urban mobility

  • Safety booklet about transporting children in cars

In association with Abramet (the Brazilian Traffic Medicine Association) and under the supervision of Denatran (the Brazilian Department of Transport), the Group developed and distributed a booklet explaining the safety rules for transporting children in cars. Over 40,000 booklets have already been distributed.

  • Peugeot carbon sink

Programme to recreate biodiversity on cleared farmland in Mato Grosso state. This project, started in 1999, has already received funding of €10 million.

  • Formare School

A facility at the Porto Real production plant, under a partnership with the Iochpe Foundation, to provide vocational training to young people on low incomes from the plant’s neighbouring regions.

  • Partnerships with SENAI (Brazilian National Service for Industrial Training)

Labour upskilling and training programme specifically for the automobile sector. Over 3,000 people have already been trained.

  • Partnerships with universities

The PSA Group has established partnerships with various Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo state universities with a focus on professional training and research.

  • Support for organisations and institutions

The PSA Group supports the actions of various organisations and institutions across the country, such as campaigns run by the Rio de Janeiro Department of Transport, or vehicles lent or donated for social programmes, to name just a few.

Employee relations

  • International Framework Agreement on Social Responsibility

In 2006, the PSA Group developed an agreement establishing its worldwide commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, expressed in 14 commitments divided into three areas: Fundamental human rights, Management and development of human resources, and Commitments to external institutions. This agreement was ratified in Brazil in 2007.

  • Workplace safety

The Group has rolled out its Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSM) system that aims to teach employees and raise their awareness of workplace accident prevention. This system has made the Brazilian subsidiary one of the country’s assembly plants with the lowest accident rate and a global reference for the PSA Group.
